After 19 years of clinical trials in NW Atlanta, we have assembled a large
study-eligible patient population in:
Major Depression:
more than 3,000
Anxiety/Panic/Social Phobia:
more than 400
In addition, we steadily recruit new patients from print advertising
(Depression/Anxiety/Panic), and NAMI referrals (Bipolar
Disorder). We are immediately adjacent to a general medical hospital
(Emory Adventist Hospital). We use central IRBs and, for inpatient
studies, the Administrative Board
at Ridgeview Institute co-endorses the decisions of the Central IRB.
We do inpatient as well as outpatient studies in Depression, and
Bipolar Disorder. We also are currently doing outpatient studies with
Anxiety Disorders.
Our placebo response rates in the vast majority of depression trials have been between
17% and 38% with a mean of 27%, and we have consistently discriminated placebo from active
comparator over the past 10 years. Our retention in six-week, double-blind depression
trials is approximately 70%, and generally better when an extension phase is available as
an incentive.
We enroll approximately 300 patients per year with a clear majority
of these on Major Depression studies and a steadily growing minority
in our Anxiety Disorder trials.
Our outpatient facility is staffed by two physicians and 3 research assistants,
one medical records specialist, one regulatory administrative assistant, one finance officer,
and one receptionist. We have also demonstrated the capability to perform Phase I-II
"Bridging" studies.
Inpatient psychiatric nursing staff are trained in the research process. We have
demonstrated rapid recruitment for our various inpatient psychiatric clinical trials, and
have demonstrated excellent recruitment and retention in our previous "bridging"
study.
